Boca do Lobo was founded in 2005 by designers Amandio Pereira and Ricardo Magalhães in Rio Tinto, north-east of Porto. From the outset, the brand set itself an ambitious goal: to reinterpret ancient craft techniques and create unexpected pieces of contemporary design. Its debut collection, SOHO, made a splash when it was unveiled in London, setting the brand on a path of rapid growth.
The brand describes its mission as that of “a Portuguese design house that turned contemporary furniture design on its head, introducing the world to a new dimension of detail and a timeless vision capable of changing the game.” Each piece is handcrafted in workshops near Porto, where cabinetmakers, jewellers, gilders, and lacquerers pass it from one craftsperson to the next until every seam, curve, and polished detail is perfected.
In 2007, the brand arrived at Harrods, the legendary London department store. In 2009, Boca do Lobo received the Most Innovative Brand Award at Maison et Objet in Paris for the unconventional, boundary-pushing furniture that has become its hallmark. In 2015, two of its pieces—the Diamond Sideboard and Pixel Anodised Cabinet—were chosen for Christian Grey’s penthouse in Fifty Shades of Grey, opening the door to Hollywood. Today, the brand’s admirers include John Legend and Beyoncé, as well as the Saudi royal family. Boca do Lobo has taken part in more than 200 international exhibitions and exhibits at Salone del Mobile in Milan, Maison&Objet in Paris, Art Basel, and Design Miami. Its showrooms are located in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Valencia, and Porto.
